While I was doing the wiring I had the negative wire unplugged from the battery just to be safe. When I reattached it, the VDC off light is on and won't turn off when I keep pressing the VDC button. The simplest thing to do is to take it back to the dealer. My 2008 Xterra had the VDC/slip light on when it was delivered. Just took it back the next day and they fixed it. Not really sure what the problem was. They said the steering angle detector (or something like that) had to be re-adjusted and the computer had to be reset.This cleared the VDC and Slip problem, but there must be a more direct way. VDC and slip lights sound unrelated and usually mean you've got an ABS code, so get that pulled and go from there. Before you do any of that though, get yourself under your truck and figure out where the transmission fluid is "pouring" out from.
